Economic Development Performance Management for Renewable Energy

Economic Development and Renewable Energy in South Africa

Renewable Energy represents an investment in clean, sustainable energy. Given the challenges created by climate change and escalating energy prices, it also represents a positive social benefit to society as a whole.

The Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP) is designed to introduce renewable sources into the South African energy system through a bidding process, underwritten by a 20 year government supported Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). As part of this agreement the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) have an obligation to the Department of Energy to achieve certain minimum targets in terms of Economic Development.

RE-eXchange engages primarily with IPPs and Contractors (EPCs) involved in the REIPPP.
